Most of today’s musicians want to become "stars" and have glitter in their eyes. But when the duo of Gillian Welch and David Rawlings started playing, they were engrossed in old-fashioned death and love, religion and salvation as their core inspiration for making music. We have just acquired a 4-disc fan-collection, Working On A Building: Demos and the Early Years, which covers their first live recordings and demos from 1993 to 1995 while slogging in Nashville. The pair’s first album, Revival, debuted in 1996.
