Rolling Stones' ****sucker Blues

Before the Rolling Stones were legally released from any further obligations to Decca, they first had to deliver the master tape of one hitherto unreleased song.

Not wishing to delay departure, the Stones complied with the terms of their contract and duly presented Decca with the notorious ****sucker Blues. Later re-titled Schoolboy Blues, it was incorporated into the stage production of Geoff Robertson’s The Trials Of Oz. It was recorded in July 1970 in a mobile recording unit in Newbury, Berkshire. There was apparently an electric version as well.

The song featured a slovenly soporific Mick Jagger hunched over an acoustic guitar moaning a lonesome blues. ****sucker Blues harrowingly depicts the seamier side of the Bright Lights-Big City legend and the plight of a runaway schoolboy who drifts into London’s West End in search of adventure and soon ends up resorting to homosexual prostitution to survive.

Naturally, Decca were shocked with what they heard but there was nothing to do. Technically, the Rolling Stones had honoured their side of the contract.

****sucker Blues was released only once as a standalone 7-inch single in a box set called The Rest of the Best: The Rolling Stones Story Pt 2 [Telefunken Decca/ Dec 16 1983]. When Decca in England found out, the set was withdrawn and the single removed. The set was rereleased in January 1984. The version we have is probably sourced from this release as you can make out the needle on the groove in the quieter passages.

****sucker Blues

Well, I'm a lonesome schoolboy
and I just came into town
Yeah, I'm a lonesome schoolboy
and I just came into town
Well, I heard so much about London
I decided to check it out

Well, I wait in Leicester Square
with a come-hither look in my eye
Yeah, I'm leaning on Nelsons Column
but all I do is talk to the lime

Oh where can I get my **** sucked?
Where can I get my ass ****ed?
I may have no money,
but I know where to put it every time

Well, I asked a young policeman
if he'd only lock me up for the night
Well, I've had pigs in the farmyard,
some of them, some of them, they're alright
Well, he ****ed me with his truncheon
and his helmet was way too tight

Oh where can I get my **** sucked?
Where can I get my ass ****ed?
I ain't got no money,
but I know where to put it every time

I'm a lonesome schoolboy
