AN
ENORMOUS PENIS IS NOT DANGEROUS
[If youre feeling
down, dont worry you lucky stiff]
A court in Ottawa, Canada has ruled Jan 18, 2004 that playing Enormous Penis by Da Vincis Notebook on Canadian radio is not obscene. Here are the songs lyrics:
Whenever life gets you down
Keeps
you wearing a frown
And the gravy train
has left you behind
And when you're all
out of hope
Down at the end of
your rope
And nobody's there
to throw you a line
If you ever get so
low that you don't know which way to go
Come on and take a
walk in my shoes
Never worry bout a
thing
Got the world on a
string
Cus I've got the cure
for all of my blues
I
take a look at my enormous penis
And
my troubles start a-meltin' away
I take
a look at my enormous penis
And the happy times
are coming to stay
I got a sing and a dance
when I glance in my pants
And
the feeling's like a sunshiney day
I take a look at my
enormous pe-e-e-nis
And everything is
goin' my way
PE-E-NIS
Everybody
I
take a look at my enormous penis
And my troubles start
a-meltin' away
I take a look at my
enormous penis
And the happy times
are coming to stay
I got great big amounts
in the place where it counts
And the feeling's
like a sunshiney day
I take a look at my
enormous penis
And everything is
goin' my way (my trouser monster)
Everything is going'
my way (my meat is murder)
Everything is goin'
my way (size doesn't matter)
Everything is goin'
my waaaaaay
yummmm

UNLUCKY STIFF
In 1992, three months after Chee Soon Juan joined the SDP, he was forced out of his university teaching position and faced charges of defamation when he attempted to dispute his dismissal. He was forced to sell his home to pay legal costs. The dismissal was over the misuse of university funds to mail his wifes thesis and overcharging of taxi fare claims.
He also lost his chance to contest the next general election when he was slapped with a fine on July 30, 2002 for speaking in public without a permit. Chee, who was fined $3,000 at the end of a three-day court hearing, had made a speech at Singapore's Speakers Corner in February about three Muslim girls who were barred from schools after they wore headscarves or "tudungs" to class.

DON'T GO, SAYS LYNN POH

The nation-builder press, Jan 16, 2004
For the run-up to the Lunar New Year 2004, the nation-builder press ran an ad campaign like the above. We presumed it was a "public service announcement".
I CAUGHT SARS ON HOLIDAY, SAYS LIN THOMAS

The BBC website, Apr 23, 2003
"A British woman has told the BBC how she contracted what is believed to be the Sars virus after a trip to Singapore.
"Lin Thomas spent nine days in a Manchester hospital after returning from a 'holiday of a lifetime' to New Zealand.
"The trip included a stopover of less than 24 hours in Singapore - and it is there she believes she contracted the pneumonia-like infection."
Nobody ran "public service announcements" like this when SARS was around.

WHY
YOU NEED AN INDEPENDENT PRESS

The nation-builder
press, Jan 16, 2004
The Economic Development Board reported that the targetted investments of S$10 billion in 2004 will create only 16,000 new jobs.
Earlier, on Mar 23, 2002 $ingaporeans were sold the idea that the Free Trade Agreement with the U.S. would create tens of thousands of new jobs. On Jan 1, 2004 the $ingapore - U.S. FTA came into effect. This is what the nation-builder press reported as front-page HEADLINE news in 2002.

The
nation-builder press, Mar 23 2002.
This is what the report
by nation-builder William Choong said:
"Picture this: 50,000 new jobs in $ingapore, US$110 million a year in savings for local exporters, hundreds, perhaps thousands, of American companies clamouring to do business here."
There are currently about 100,000 unemployed $ingaporeans. If you include permanent residents and foreigners, the number could be higher.
WHERE
ARE THE JOBS? WHERE ARE THE JOBS?

The nation-builder
press, Dec 17, 2003.
This is what the Dec
17 report said: "The new year should be cheerier for those seeking work, as
more jobs are likely to be on offer." In a separate news story carried by AFP
a day earlier, the Messenger, minister without portfolio Lim Boon Heng, said:
"Its a gut feel that we should see about 4 per cent unemployment [in 2004]."

The
nation-builder press Jan 14, 2004.
An NUS don has said
$ingapore needs to create 30,000 jobs + 103,000 jobs to bring the unemployment
rate down to the 4 per cent that the Messenger, minister without portfolio Lim
Boon Heng said is achievable this year.
EDB chairman Teo Ming Kian said Jan 15, 2004 at a press briefing: "We have to be realistic. We do not expect to bring in many of the investments that are very labour-intensive and create thousands of jobs."
"100,000
jobless $ingaporeans have to rely on Lim Boon Heng's cut feel? Be realistic
lah."

SO HERES THE NEWS AGAIN

T he nation-builder press,
Jan 15, 2004.
In one of the above reports it was revealed that the detention of 13 JI members netted in the first wave of arrests in December 2001 has been extended for another two years. They have to wait till Dec 2005 to find out if and when they will be released. No one has ever asked to hear their side of the story.
There are now 37 Singaporeans
locked up under the Internal Security Act. Another 12 are under "restriction
orders". Another 30, "marginally involved in JI activities" according
to the report, had been warned to cease their links with terrorist groups. None
have been charged in court for any crime.

THE PROMISE
"Members of Parliament yesterday supported the government's promise to put people
first and to promote active citizenship that was laid out in President SR Nathan's
address to Parliament last week." - the nation-builder press, Oct 12 1999.
If you can
remember this headline when the ruling PAP party and their million-dollar ministers
ALL came forward to make this pledge to always have the interests of $ingaporeans
"first", then you qualify to be a unique $ingaporean with a memory.
On that day, one by one, PAP MPs debated for five hours on the President's address
and took "a long and deep view into the kind of society $ingapore wanted to
be". As one MP put it, $ingapore needed to change the emphasis from hardware
to "heartware".
Well, the $ingapore economy is down now. Exports have fallen. Unemployment has
ballooned to more than 100,000 people without jobs. Bankruptcies have gone up
and up. So what did you expect your "people first" government
to do?
Did you expect them to lower income tax to help the rich
pay less?
Did you expect them to raise the GST/sales tax so people have to pay more for
everything they buy?
Did you expect them to raise the bus and MRT/train fares?
Did you expect them to raise the ERP/toll rates?
Did you expect them to raise the parking fees?
Did you expect them to raise the power rates?
Did you expect them to raise rubbish collection fees?
Did you expect them to consider raising telephone rates?
Did
you expect them to raise postage rates?
Did you expect them to consider cutting your CPF (ie your wages) if you are
over 40 years old?

AND
NOT MUCH HELP
While labour leaders earn big salaries, the PAP governments policy on aiding workers was spelt out as recently as Aug 20 2001.

The nation-builder
press, Aug 20 2001.
With GST rising to 5 per cent on Jan 1 2004, $ingaporeans have an additional burden to bear of $1.32 billion a year, forever.
The government has also refused to restore CPF cuts. Which means the 1999 CPF cuts, which cost Singapore workers $7.5 billion in earnings a year, remains for a fourth year. Thats a total of $30 billion that workers have sacrificed so far.
Workers wages have also
been frozen by order of the National Wages Council. Living in $ingapore is a
high cost affair. And WORKERS ARE THE ONES ASKED TIME
AND TIME AGAIN TO BEAR THE BURDEN AND MAKE THE SACRIFICE.
THERE ARE ONLY TWO CERTAINTIES FOR 2004
When you wake up on Jan 1 2004, the high cost of living will go up higher with the new 5 per cent GST tax.
The other certainty is that
your million-dollar PAP ministers will have their pay cuts restored in June
2004.
REMEMBER THIS?

"Cabinet ministers
and senior civil servants will see their salary cuts fully restored Jan 1 2000.
Their salaries will also be unfrozen, to keep pace with private sector pay."
- the nation-builder press, Nov 24 1999.
This
isn't the first time PAP ministers have rushed to restore their pay cuts.

HOW
$INGAPORE HELPS THE POOR
The
nation-builder press, May 4 2002.
Seventy percent of Singaporeans do not pay taxes. About 110,000 Singaporeans
are unemployed. With the GST at 5%, $ingaporeans will likely pay $1.32 billion
in GST to the government.
"You cannot help the poor man by destroying the rich."
- Both Ronald Reagan and Margaret Thatcher attributed the above quote to Abraham
Lincoln. But there is no evidence in Lincoln's speeches that he ever said that.
"Neither can you help the
poor man by raising the cost of living."
- The Mirror of Opinion, May 4 2002.
HOW
$INGAPORE HELPS THE POOR Pt 2

The nation-builder press, May 6 2002.
The nation-builder press,
April 20 2001.
"The overall amount of remuneration paid to cabinet ministers and ministers
of state in the last financial year was $27.8 million."
- The nation-builder press, Apr 20 2001. $ingapore has 17 ministers + 10 ministers
of state = 27.
"27 ministers continue to be paid $27.8 million a year. Every $ingaporean including
the110,000 unemployed will share $17.6 million in NTUC's GST help package for
one year only."

THE HIGHER COST OF POWER AND POSTAGE STAMPS IN 2004
Every $ingaporean will be affected by these two brand new price increases announced in the nation-builder press and suitably with a misleading headline. The report said:
"Singapore Power will be raising electricity charges by an average of 0.17 cents this month. Domestic and non-domestic users of low tension supplies will now pay 15.44 cents per kilowatt-hour.
"From Feb 3, Singapore Post will be increasing the price for standard mail weighing 20g and 40g by one cent to $0.23 and $0.31 respectively."
Your one cent also they want.
Plus this: "From this month, the Government will cut starting pay in the civil service by up to 20 per cent to keep salaries in line with private sector ones."

SM LEE: "I
FIND
STEVE CHIA FRIENDLY AND AGREEABLE"
On the occasion of his 80th birthday, the nation-builder press interviewed SM Lee Kuan Yew. The interview was published in the nation-builder paper Sept 14, 2003. One of the early questions he was asked was the manner in which he fought his political opponents. He was asked if he was "personal". In the course of his reply he also said this:
"I find Chiam See Tong, Low Thia Khiang and Steve Chia friendly and agreeable.
"There are several others, people who made malicious allegations that I was dishonest and corrupt, when they must have known there was no basis for them. I sued them. I did not regard them as serious political opponents.
"ST: You've mentioned only several people - Mr Chiam, Mr Low and Mr Chia.
"SM Lee: That's deliberate. No reason to give publicity to people whom I consider unprincipled and opportunistic."

GENERAL LEE
SAYS SORRY TO STEVE CHIA
On Nov 4, 2001 General Lee Hsien Loong called $ingapore Democratic Alliance candidate Steve Chia a former Young PAP member. But on Nov 6, the nation-builder press reported Mr Chia denying he ever was a PAP member. He said he had attended a two-hour golf clinic followed by lunch organised by the PAP's youth wing. The PAP issued a statement to say General Lee had apologised for the error.
Perhaps the Young PAP member General Lee got mixed up with was James Gomez. Mr Gomez was a former member of the PAP. He was a candidate for the Workers Party in the 2001 General Election. His GRC team was disqualified from the Aljunied constituency because some of the forms were not properly filled.
